To take advantage of this South Valley tour, we will need to leave Cusco early. Therefore we planned to pick you up at your hotel at 07:00 am. Down south our first visit will be at Tipon, continuing in Pikillaqta and the last but not the least Andahuayllas.
As we mentioned before, Tipon is located to the east of Cusco. Tipon Incan ruins are believed to have been a park for the upper class or an agricultural center. This large area contains 12 impressive terraces. Yet even more impressive is the still functioning irrigation system that continues watering crops to this day.
Pikillaqta presents characteristics of a pre-Incan main urban center that was important for the development of the Huari Empire. In this ancient town, you can see colcas (food deposits), athletics fields, houses, temples, narrow streets and buildings up to four stories high. We will spend about an hour here. Then, we continue on to Andahuaylillas to complete our South Valley tour Cusco.
Andahuaylillas is a typical Peruvian village with great architecture. But the most important building you must check is the Catholic church with beautiful decorations and wall paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is known as the Sistine Chapel of Cusco.
We will spend about one hour here and return to Cusco around 1:30 pm.
