We will welcome you at the Puerto Maldonado airport and drive you ten minutes to our headquarters. While enjoying your first taste of the forest in our gardens, we will ask you to pack only the necessary gear for the next few days and leave the rest in our safe deposit. We need a light boat.
We get ready and leave our office and skirting Puerto Maldonado, we drive 20 kilometers to the Tambopata River Port, entering the Native Community of Infierno and before we getting on our boat ride we'll have a snack here.
The two and half hours boat ride from the Tambopata Port to Refugio Amazonas will pass the Community´s primary forest private and National Tambopata reserve too.
Upon arrival into the buffer zone of this 1.3 million hectare conservation unit, the lodge manager will welcome you and brief you with important navigation and security tips during the tour.
The guides are mostly biologists, tourism professionals in conservation, or local community members. All of them speak English. We assign one guide for a group of ten people and unless is smaller than ten people will be merged with other groups to reach the total. If you would like a private guide with specific requirements please tell us.
After dinner, we will be out at the river's edge at night, scanning the shores with headlamps and flashlights to catch the red gleams of reflection from caimans eyes. Fun isn’t it?
